How to sign a document online in Rwanda

You can get a contract signed online in a few minutes, on any phone, without printing or scanning. Here is how it works with GewapeSign, for the person sending the document and for the people signing it.

If you are sending a document

1. Create an account. Sign up at app.gewapesign.com/signup with your work email. Your first 5 documents are free and no card is needed.
2. Upload the document. Upload a PDF or Word file, or start from a saved template.
3. Add the people who sign. Enter each signer's name and email, and choose a signing order or let everyone sign at once.
4. Place the fields. Accept the suggested signature, date and initial fields, or place your own.
5. Send and track. Each signer gets an email with a link. You see who opened and who signed, and reminders go out automatically.
6. Keep the signed copy. When everyone has signed, each person receives the sealed PDF and its completion certificate.

If you are asked to sign

1. Open the link in the email you received. You do not need an account and you never pay.
2. Read the document, then fill in each highlighted field.
3. Add your signature by drawing it, typing it or uploading an image, and press Complete.
4. If something is wrong, choose Reject and give a reason; the sender is told.

Checking a signed document later

Every finished document carries an audit trail, a completion certificate, a SHA-256 fingerprint and an independent timestamped proof. Anyone can check the proof at gewapesign.com/verify, in their browser, without an account and without contacting us.

Is it legal?

For most documents, yes: Law N° 18/2010 recognizes electronic signatures and electronic contracts in Rwanda, with some exclusions such as wills, powers of attorney and documents relating to immovable property.
